About this Project

There are many ways to add more insulation to a roof from blown-in fibreglass/cellulose from the interior to a layer of exterior insulation to a mix of both. But not every solution is ideal for every project. Leadership at the Trinity Baptist Church in Calgary, Alberta, The Trinity Baptist Church in Calgary, Alberta, aimed to improve the energy efficiency of their building to reduce operational costs and create a more comfortable environment during mass gatherings.

Stanley park house

The church has a beautifully crafted cathedral ceiling with cedar plank roofing and the church did not want to loose the finish. That’s when they reach out to us to see if a comprehensive exterior retrofit would be a time and cost-effective solution to modernizing their roof assembly.

With the shingles on the church needing replacement in the near future, it was perfect timing for us to explore how adding exterior insulation can transform how the space feels without changing it’s iconic look.

The Solution

Working with our partnered engineer, Concept Plus Architecture and Engineering, we recommended a One-Sided OSB Panel featuring 7/16” OSB and 8” of Type II EPS insulation. This not only added an impressive R-40 for the roofing assembly but also preserved the cathedral ceiling finish, as per the church’s preference. Using SIS Roofing Panels ensured a speedy installation, mirroring traditional methods but with enhanced efficiency.
